I've been a volunteer at various animal shelters for around 10 years. My own dog is reactive as a result of poor socialisation in his puppyhood (his third vaccination fell EXACTLY before covid hit), and used to be drop dead terrified of everything: people, dogs, bicycles, cars, EVERYTHING. I don't know how to emphasise the training we did in order to get him to the point he is now. He attends daycare, goes for agility, I bring him to pet-centric events, pet friendly gyms, pet cafes etc with little to no problem. Hes still rather pushy with other dogs and needs supervision with them off leash. But otherwise his door manners are impeccable (we can collect deliveries with him sitted on the floor by the door without a bark + we leave our main door open without a gate or barrier and he pays no mind to our neighbours passing by), he can maintain a sit stay in place when visitors are over, is fully compliant during grooming, and completely trustworthy with cats and small animals. I have sourced for multiple trainers and observed their training styles, am able to recommend trainers that I approve of and have seen results from, and personally intend to apply for a dog training course next year. I am queued to foster a dog this year, and have rescued many animals such as doves, rats, hamsters and even a bat. The language function doesn't include dialect but I speak Hokkien too so if your dialect only grandparent needs help walking their dogs I'm up for it!*
